Are You Ready for the Carbon Footprint?

1641872035883102.jpg       Climate change has become an important issue in the sustainable development of global business and industry. Assessing carbon footprint is the first step for companies to take conscious actions to address global warming.  Carbon footprint is still a relatively unknown concept on a global scale. In order to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate their adverse impacts on the climate and environment, it is essential that individuals or organizations accurately determine their carbon footprint. Determining your carbon footprint is relatively simple for an individual, but more complex for an organization.  That's because an organization's carbon footprint includes a wide range of emission sources, from the transportation of materials to the energy consumption of factories.

Calculation of carbon emissions:

So how do you calculate an individual's or an organization's carbon emissions?  Several calculation formulas are given below:

 consumes 1 ton of standard coal and emits 2.6 tons of carbon dioxide.

 Carbon dioxide emission of household electricity consumption (kg)= electricity consumption (kWh)x0.785;

 carbon dioxide emission of driving (kg)= fuel consumption (L)×0.785;

 Carbon dioxide emission of train travel (kg)= travel distance (km)×0.04;

 Household natural gas carbon dioxide emissions (kg)= natural gas consumption (m3)×0.19;

 Household tap water carbon dioxide emissions (kg)= tap water consumption (m3)×0.91;

 Carbon dioxide emission of meat (kg)= amount of meat (kg)×1.24.

For example, a fir tree can absorb 111kg of carbon dioxide in 30 years, with an average annual absorption of about 4kg, so roughly calculate how many trees are needed to compensate for the following consumption:

 air travel 2000m=278kg carbon emission =3 trees;

 100kW·h electricity consumption =78.5kg carbon emission =1 tree;

 100L gasoline consumption =270kg carbon emission =3 trees.

Tension Asia carbon Footprint:

Since the establishment of NGF in 2012, Tension Asia has provided the company with all-round innovation and development in different directions such as new product development, new market research and operation management. The general manager said:  "From the traditional manufacturing industry to adapt to the development of the new era of the new policy, we need to follow the market forward, constantly blaze new trails, to transform, let every employee has the innovation spirit, not only from the successful transformation of enterprises, the external market research learning more on the internal management and the pursuit of innovation, strive for energy conservation and emissions reduction."  In 2014, after the investigation by NGF, factories in Shaoxing and Taiwan started to save energy and reduce emission, replacing LED energy-saving lamps in the whole factory.  According to statistics from 2015 to 2021, factories on both sides of the Strait can save about 109,715 KWH of electricity and 86,126KG of carbon emissions per year on average, equivalent to planting about 1,097 trees per year.

At the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly in 2020, China announced to the world that it aims to peak its carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.  In May 2021, with the approval of the Council of China Energy Conservation Association, the Carbon Neutrality Committee of China Energy Conservation Association was established on the basis of the Carbon Trading Industry Alliance of China Energy Conservation Association, in order to implement the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutral work proposed by the CPC Central Committee. It is mainly to build an open communication platform for all relevant units.  Efforts should be made to achieve national carbon peak and carbon neutrality through strategic research, capacity building, standard-setting and international cooperation.

The EU's proposed "Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism" would impose Carbon tariffs in 2023 on imports from countries that trade with the BLOC if they fail to comply with emissions rules.  In particular, cement, electricity, steel, fertilizer and aluminum industries with high carbon emissions will be required to purchase CBAM Cerificates to sell their products to the EU market from 2026.

The world's carbon reduction and environmental protection is in full force, the major enterprises are quietly keeping pace. Are you ready?
